Our Mission

Empowerment and Advocacy in all areas of life

Empowering Butte Fire Families to reclaim and rebuild their lives is the mission of The Hive: A Butte Fire Recovery Center. To accomplish this goal we will relieve stress through advocacy, guidance, and promotion of coping skills. We will help them meet basic needs in all areas of living, identify long term goals, and help them achieve those goals. We will provide for these needs on an individual basis, without discrimination.

Who We Are

  1. Help us help others

Volunteer your time to staff the office or put your "boots on the ground" and be a "Bee in the air" to work directly with survivors and volunteers.

  2. Your monetary gift works just as hard as your time. Donate directly or shop Amazon Smile

  3. Help us help you

Call or email us. Tell us your needs. You may have lost a home that you own, or rented. You may have only lost your trees or your fences. We CAN help.

  4. Use your professional skill
Provide your services (pro bono) to the survivors on a one-to-one or group basis.

Butte Fire Survivor Advocates

We are a diverse group of volunteers and advocates who believe that providing for needs will reduce the stress of recovering from loss, and will empower the survivors to rebuild and improve their lives in the long term.

We are a non-profit, 501(C)(3) organization.

The Butte Fire burned more than 70,000 acres in Calaveras county (approximately 11% below poverty line.) More than 1,000 people lost their homes and everything they owned. The rural areas that burned were mostly uninsurable due to geography, or only insurable at rates beyond reasonable for the average wage earner (among the highest unemployment rates in the state.)
